RESPITE

WHAT IS RESPITE?

Respite is a short-term care and support service designed to provide caregivers with a temporary break from their caring responsibilities, while ensuring their loved one continues to receive high-quality care in a safe and supportive environment.

Respite can range from a single day or overnight stay to longer periods, depending on the needs of the participant and their family.

Respite is beneficial for both participants and caregivers. It gives participants the opportunity to enjoy new experiences, build friendships, develop independence, and engage in meaningful activities, while caregivers can rest, recharge, attend to personal commitments, spend time with family and friends, or simply take time for themselves.

Our respite services are available to participants of all ages. We carefully consider age, gender, interests, support needs, and compatibility when planning stays to ensure every participant feels comfortable, safe, and supported throughout their time with us.

Regular respite can play an important role in preventing carer burnout and maintaining the wellbeing of the entire family.

OUR RESPITE SERVICES

Our Respite Service provides temporary relief for caregivers while ensuring individuals with disabilities receive compassionate, personalised, and high-quality support. We understand that caring for a loved one can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding.

We provide a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment staffed by experienced and compassionate support professionals who are skilled in supporting people with a wide range of disabilities. Our respite stays include engaging activities tailored to each participant's interests, abilities, and goals, encouraging social connection, independence, confidence, skill development, and community integration.

Our accommodation is designed to provide a genuine home-away-from-home experience. Participants enjoy comfortable, homely rooms with quality mattresses and hypoallergenic bedding, close access to toilets and bathrooms, disability-accessible bathroom facilities, spacious living and kitchen areas, Wi-Fi, televisions, complimentary tea and coffee, and heating and air conditioning throughout the property.

We offer flexible respite options to suit the needs of participants and their families, whether that be overnight stays, weekends, school holiday programs, or longer-term respite arrangements. Our modern, renovated accommodation is continually being upgraded, and we maintain exceptionally high cleaning standards across all areas of the facility.

The safety and wellbeing of our participants is our highest priority. We operate under stringent health and safety protocols and maintain 24/7 camera surveillance in common areas to help ensure a secure environment for everyone. Families can have confidence knowing their loved one is receiving quality support in a safe and well-supervised setting.

With flexible scheduling options and a strong commitment to open communication, we keep families informed and involved throughout every stay. Our team provides regular updates, photos, and videos, giving caregivers peace of mind knowing their loved one is safe, happy, and receiving quality support.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to quality, compassion, and meaningful experiences. We strive to create an environment where participants can have fun, build friendships, develop new skills, and enjoy greater independence, while caregivers take the time they need to rest, recharge, and focus on their own wellbeing.

CARER BURNOUT

WHAT IS CARER BURNOUT?

Carer burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that can occur when someone spends a prolonged period caring for another person, often without enough rest, support, or time for themselves.

For carers of people with disabilities, burnout can develop gradually as they juggle responsibilities such as personal care, medical appointments, behaviour support, household tasks, advocacy, and emotional support. Many carers are effectively "on duty" 24/7, which can make it difficult to recharge.

WHY IS RESPITE IMPORTANT FOR CARERS?

Regular respite benefits the entire family. When carers are well-rested and supported, they are often better able to maintain their own health and wellbeing, strengthen family relationships, and continue providing quality care over the long term. At the same time, participants gain valuable opportunities to build independence, develop social connections, learn new skills, and enjoy new experiences in a supportive environment.

Respite is not about taking a break from a loved one, it is about ensuring both the carer, and the participant have the support they need to thrive.

WE DON'T "BABYSIT"

It is important to us that our participants get the most out of their stays. While creating enjoyable, memorable, and meaningful experiences is a priority, we are equally committed to actively working towards each participant's individual goals and increasing their independence.

Throughout their stay, participants are supported to develop and strengthen everyday life skills such as personal care and grooming, cooking and meal preparation, household cleaning, making their bed, washing and folding clothes, and other daily living tasks. Our focus is on empowering participants to build confidence, develop practical skills, and increase their independence in a supportive and encouraging environment. Every experience is an opportunity to learn, grow, and work towards achieving greater autonomy and long-term goals.

COMFORTABLE STAYS

We are committed to carefully matching participants to ensure everyone feels comfortable, safe, and supported during their stay. For example, we would never place an 18-year-old woman with a 54-year-old man.
